The Best Free Proxy Lists for Web Scraping

When we talk about proxies, we almost always mention avoiding free proxies. Nothing in the world is free, and the same can be said about the free proxies. While you will not pay a dime for them, there are some tradeoffs when you use them.

Best Free Proxy Lists

Unlike the paid proxies, with the free ones, you get no privacy and protection, the speeds are far from ideal, and you have no idea who is on the other end of the IP address. With that said, there are some applications where you can use them.

Our recommendation is to avoid using them for any task where you will be entering personal information. Also, keep in mind that they will probably not work with strict sites about proxies accessing them.

We recommend using them mostly for scraping. You probably won’t be able to scrape some of the popular sites, but you shouldn’t have any problems with the less popular ones.

Overall, you should use free proxies if you are on a tight budget. They are also a great way to learn how scraping works and for you to test things out.

With that out of the way, let us get into the best 10 free proxy lists. Some of these services will offer paid proxies, but we will be focusing solely on the free ones. Also, all proxies are datacenter ones.

10 Free Proxy List Sites for Web Scraping

Free-Proxy-List.net

  • Types of proxies: Anonymous, Transparent, and Elite
  • Number of proxies: Unknown
  • Geo-targeting: By country
  • Available countries: 52
  • HTTPS: Yes
  • SOCKS: Yes
  • Offers paid proxies: Yes

This is one of those companies that offer free and paid proxies. The list of free proxies is available on their homepage, where you have up to 300 proxies to use. They come from 52 countries across all continents, and you can choose to filter the proxies by country but not by city, meaning that you have only country-level geo-targeting. The company claims to have over 6500 proxies from 122 countries in their network, but there is no way to tell how many are in the free proxy batch.

Each proxy gets checked every 30 minutes and gets replaced if it doesn’t work anymore. Regardless of which country you get a proxy from, they are all datacenter proxies and can be: anonymous, transparent, and elite. Depending on the proxy, some may be HTTPS, while other HTTP only. At this moment, none of the proxies will work with Google.

Apart from the entire list, the company also has a separate domain for SSL and SOCKS proxies.

FreeProxyLists.net

  • Types of proxies: Anonymous
  • Number of proxies: Unknown
  • Geo-targeting: By country and city
  • Available countries: Variable
  • HTTPS: Yes
  • SOCKS: No
  • Offers paid proxies: No

FreeProxyLists is a website where you can get free proxies, but the number of offered proxies is up to 250. Based on the table, you have 5 pages with 50 proxies per page. The downside is that once a proxy goes down, it is removed and doesn’t get replaced by a new one. It means that you won’t always have 250 proxies to play with, probably caused by the number of proxies or the lack thereof. The same goes for the countries. At the time of the writing, we had as low as 40 countries and as high as 52.

While you have the option to choose proxies from the countries in their list, don’t expect a big choice when it comes to city-level geo-targeting. The proxies are generally anonymous, with the option to be completely transparent, standard anonymous, and high anonymous.

On the right side of the table, you have a response and transfer bars showing you the quality of each proxy. You can also look at the uptime percentages.

Spys

  • Types of proxies: Anonymous
  • Number of proxies: 24251
  • Geo-targeting: By country and city
  • Available countries: 170
  • HTTPS: Yes
  • SOCKS: Yes
  • Offers paid proxies: Yes, through a different provider

Spys.one may look like a website from the 90s, but it seems to provide the most flexible free proxy experience. Unlike most of the competitors on this list, this one advertises the total number of proxies and countries. You can get over 24 thousand proxies from 170 countries. Since you can target proxies from certain cities, you have 3375 cities to choose from. Even though they are datacenter proxies, you are still getting more than with some paid proxy providers.

To keep things fair, you don’t get unlimited access to the entire database of networks. At any time, you can only get around 500 of them. This is to prevent one user from occupying all proxies.

You have the option to choose HTTPS/SSL, Squid, Anonymous, or SOCKS proxies. Not all proxies work on the same port, so you also have proxy lists sorted by ports. In the proxy list table, you have the uptime is shown in a percent, as well as the last date and time the IP address was checked. As a bonus, you can download a TXT file with 400 proxies already lined up for use.

Free-Proxy.cz

  • Types of proxies: Elite, Anonymous, and Transparent
  • Number of proxies: 7500
  • Geo-targeting: By country
  • Available countries: 135
  • HTTPS: Yes
  • SOCKS: Yes
  • Offers paid proxies: No

Free-Proxy.cz is a free proxy list website reasonably similar to the previous one. Their similarities are mostly in the way they present the proxies and the wide variety of locations available. The pool of proxies consists of 7500 IP addresses in 135 countries. Unfortunately, you don’t have the option to choose or sort the proxies by a specific city.

Regardless of that, you have access to the entire network of proxies, and you can use all of them if you need to. Keep in mind, the quick export function of the proxies will provide you only a handful. If you want more, you’ll need to copy and paste them manually.

The filter part of the site will enable you to filter by country, protocol, and type. The supported protocols are HTTP, HTTPS, SOCKS4, and SOCKS5, while the proxies can be elite, anonymous, or transparent.

A great thing about Free-proxy.cz is that the table provides you with much more information than the rest of the competitors. You have the uptime percentage as standard, but you can also monitor each proxy’s speed and latency. Even though there is no city-level geo-targeting, you can still see the city and region on some of the proxies.

HideMy.name

  • Types of proxies: Anonymous
  • Number of proxies: less than 2000
  • Geo-targeting: By country
  • Available countries: 106
  • HTTPS: Yes
  • SOCKS: Yes
  • Offers paid proxies: Yes

Hidemy.name is one of those free proxy providers that offer paid services and free proxy lists. You get a little under 2000 proxies in 106 countries for the free part, which is decent, but not much, compared to some of the previous. There is an option to download a proxy list, but you will need to have an account, which means you need to pay for it.

You can search for the proxies based on the port, protocol, latency, and level of anonymity. Like free-proxy.cz you can search by country only, but you can see the city where the IP is located. Since the proxies will work on various ports, you will need to enter the port or port range manually, and the same goes for the latency test. The supported protocols on HideMy.name are HTTP, HTTPS, SOCKS4, and SOCKS5. As for the anonymity, the proxies can have high, average, low, or no anonymity.

All proxies are shown in a table that provides you with all the information you’d need. Based on what we see, they are checked each hour, where the bad ones are removed from the pool. You can also look at each proxy’s latency, but unfortunately, you cannot sort the table. The default sorting will show you the freshest proxies.

ProxyScan.io

  • Types of proxies: Transparent, Anonymous, Elite
  • Number of proxies: 5390
  • Geo-targeting: By Country
  • Available countries: 130
  • HTTPS: Yes
  • SOCKS: Yes
  • Offers paid proxies: No

We must admit that ProxyScan.io seems to be the most user-friendly free proxy list site. While the others had tables on multiple pages, this is an interactive one, and as you scroll down, more proxies show up. The network consists of over 5390 proxies in 130 countries. Considering the number, you should find at least one proxy in most countries throughout the world. There is an option to download proxies in a TXT format, but it will include only proxies from a specific protocol. Also, you won’t get the entire list of proxies; you will get a little over 200.

The search option is as extensive as you’d expect. You can search by country only but still be able to see which city the proxy is from. As for the proxy type, you can have the standard protocols: HTTP, HTTPS, SOCKS4, and SOCKS5. The proxies are datacenter ones and can be transparent, anonymous, or elite. The option to search by port number or maximum latency is also available.

When you look at the table, you will see that there are some sorting options. You cannot sort all columns, but you can sort the proxies by ping, uptime, or last check. Speaking of, all proxies are checked every 10 minutes and are removed if they don’t fit the criteria.

Proxy-List.download

  • Types of proxies: Elite, Anonymous, and Transparent
  • Number of proxies: 1917
  • Geo-targeting: By country
  • Available countries: Unknown
  • HTTPS: Yes
  • SOCKS: Yes
  • Offers paid proxies: No

Proxy-list.download seems to be the most flexible free proxy list website when you want to download the lists. Right of the bat, you will have the option to choose the protocol you need. There are HTTP, HTTPS, SOCKS4, and SOCKS5 protocols available. In addition to that, you can also get elite proxies, but from a different proxy provider. The overall number of proxies is 1917, but the number of countries is unknown. As the proxies change, so does their number as well as the number of available countries.

On the filter side of things, you don’t get as much flexibility as the other free proxy list sites. You can filter by country or proxy type for the HTTP and HTTPS proxies. The available options are transparent, anonymous, and elite. The SOCKS4 and SOCKS5 proxies can be filtered only by the country because they are elite.

As you filter the proxies, you can download or copy them below the table, and you will be getting all available proxies. Unfortunately, unlike the other websites, you don’t get as many details. You can only see the country where the proxy is from, but not the latency, uptime, or when it was last checked. HTTP proxies are updated every hour, HTTPS every day, and SOCKS4 and SOCKS5 every 2 hours.

OpenProxy.space

  • Types of proxies: Anonymous, Transparent, and Elite
  • Number of proxies: 6868
  • Geo-targeting: By country
  • Available countries: Unknown
  • HTTPS: Yes
  • SOCKS: Yes
  • Offers paid proxies: Yes

OpenProxy.space is a free proxy provider that is a bit unique. The service is more like social media for free proxies. Users can go to the website and upload a list of proxies for other people to use. That makes the number of proxies and countries slightly difficult to determine. At the moment, there are 6868 proxies, but that number can change drastically in a few minutes.

Each proxy batch is sorted by the user that uploaded it, showing you the protocol, number of available proxies, and when the list was uploaded. To check the countries where the proxies are from, you will need to check manually. When you get in the proxy list, you can choose proxies from the countries you want. As you update the filter by country, the list changes, and once you get it tuned, you can download it as a TXT document.

As for the type and protocols, you have the standard choice. Proxies can be anonymous, transparent, or elite, with the regular supported protocols: HTTP, HTTPS, SOCKS4, and SOCKS5. Since OpenProxy.space doesn’t manage the proxies, you cannot get some insight such as uptime, latency, etc.

ProxyScrape

  • Types of proxies: Anonymous, Transparent, and Elite
  • Number of proxies: 4229
  • Geo-targeting: By country
  • Available countries: Depends on the protocol
  • HTTPS: Yes
  • SOCKS: Yes
  • Offers paid proxies: Yes

If you ever did some scarping, you probably heard of ProxyScrape.com. the company offers decent paid proxies, but today we will look at the free ones. Their free proxies pool consists of well over 4000 IP addresses divided between the 3 protocols: HTTP, SOCKS4, and SOCKS5. HTTPS proxies are also available but are under the HTTP list. Regarding anonymity, you have anonymous, transparent, and elite proxies. If you need proxies from a certain region, you will have to settle with a country filter only.

While other free proxy websites provide you with a table with tons of information about the proxies, ProxyScrape works differently. You have the option to download the entire list from a specific protocol. Also, you have a handful of proxies available in a table. You get 8 proxies from all available protocols.

Information-wise, you get as little as OpenProxy.space. You cannot see which city the proxies are from, nor can you verify when they were last checked, latency, uptime, etc.

ProxyNova

  • Types of proxies: Elite, Transparent, and Anonymous
  • Number of proxies: 2855
  • Geo-targeting: By country
  • Available countries: 18
  • HTTPS: Unknown
  • SOCKS: Unknown
  • Offers paid proxies: No

As you may noticed, some of the free proxy providers offer you access to the entire database of proxies, but that is not the case with ProxyNova. To prevent one user from occupying all proxies, you get the freshest 35 proxies. A slight downside is that you can only filter the proxies based on the country and type. The biggest downside is that you don’t get port and protocol filtering. Also, they don’t disclose which are the supported protocols for the proxies.

ProxyNova doesn’t have a vast proxy pool. They have almost 3000 proxies from 18 countries in America, Europe, and Asia. The numbers can change, but they are not record-breaking.

The table with the proxies provides all the information you’ll need. You can see the country, port, latency, uptime, and anonymity. For some of the proxies, you can even see the city. The list gets refreshed every 60 seconds, and the IP addresses are checked every 15 minutes.

  • Types of proxies: Transparent, Anonymous, Distorting, and Elite
  • Number of proxies: 11758
  • Geo-targeting: By country
  • Available countries: 137
  • HTTPS: Yes
  • SOCKS: Yes
  • Offers paid proxies: No

We believe we saved the best for last. ProxyDB is a free proxy list website that has the biggest network of proxies. The proxy pool consists of almost 12 thousand IP addresses coming from 137 countries worldwide. You can filter the proxies by country, protocol, and level of anonymity. You can have HTTP, HTTPS, SOCKS4, and SOCKS5 proxies. They come in 4 types of anonymity: transparent, anonymous, distorting, and elite.

The table provides all the necessary information about the proxies, but getting them is not easy. You can either copy and paste them manually or donate to download the full list.

During the writing of this review, we checked the stats of the service several times, and each time the number of proxies increased. We like the service and all it offers, but there is some information lacking. They are transparent with the numbers, but it seems that they don’t check the proxies as often as some of the others.

Conclusion

Even though we don’t recommend using free proxies for most of what we write, there are some exceptions.

If you never scraped before, free proxies are a great way to get acquainted with the field and learn how things work. You can also use them for a specific project, as long as privacy and anonymity are not your primary concern.

Regardless of what you plan to use them for, we compiled a list of the best 10 free proxy list sites that you can use. Bear in mind that there are tons more similar sites, so you are not stuck with just the ones we selected.
